Raku in the Parking Lot will take place with artist Ken
Nance. Japanese potters invented the Raku firing method of ceramics
long ago. Visitors will be able to pick a pot to glaze and watch as
the piece is fired in a gas-fueled kiln and transferred into a metal
can full of sawdust and excelsior where a magical transformation
occurs. All creations will go home that day!
Also, don’t miss viewing the Museum’s
current Transparent Watercolor Society of America 31st Annual
Exhibition that highlights more than 75 of the best transparent
watercolor works in the nation. These diverse paintings provide a
wonderful backdrop for a weekend full of art, and admission to the
Museum is FREE!
The Elmhurst Art Museum’s
award-winning modern museum structure incorporates the Ludwig Mies
van der Rohe-designed McCormick House, one of three such residences
designed by the internationally known architect, and contains museum
galleries, an education center and a variety of outdoor sculpture.
Located only 15 miles west of Chicago and adjacent to the Metra West
train line, the Museum offers public tours and programs, guest
lectures and art classes on a regular basis. Its mission is to
enrich the lives of its visitors by broadening their knowledge,
increasing their sensitivity to the fine arts and sparking the
development of their own creative talents.
