Cynthia Hellyer Heinz: Sacred Gift
New Exhibition Reveals Truths on Mother Nature

ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst Art Museum will display a new body of colored pencil drawings from Warrenville artist Cynthia Hellyer Heinz from August 18 through October 7, 2007. Renowned for the passion and symbolism in her meticulous drawings, Ms. Heinz’s works are surrealist narratives created with the intention to stimulate a dialogue with each viewer. She works gradually, building the layers of light and dark until the form emerges of highly saturated color that soars off the paper.

By capturing the maternal aspect of Mother Nature, Ms. Heinz exposes the conflict of popular physical beauty with the core of inner beauty. “Mother holds a preeminent position in our consideration of goodness,” she states, “We would not exist without the mother, the giver and sustaining power of life.” Her art focuses on nature as boundless and forceful to help us understand our blessings and redeem our quality of life. Heinz encourages the viewer to recognize his potential, and unite his existence within the environment.

The combination of art and instruction is intrinsic to the resulting images of Cynthia Hellyer Heinz. Ms. Heinz is a Warrenville artist, and an instructor at Northern Illinois University (NIU). She earned a B.F.A. from Pratt Institute in Drawing and Art Education as well as an M.F.A. in Drawing. She was awarded a Teaching Fellowship and has been an instructor at NIU since 1998. She has worked as the Foundations Drawing Administrator and the Graduate Teaching Assistant Mentor in Drawing for the past three years. Ms. Heinz comments, “My mission as a teacher is to inspire my students into thoughtful communication and empower them with the skill and techniques to accomplish their goals.”

The Elmhurst Art Museum (EAM) will host several opportunities to meet artist Cynthia Hellyer Heinz:
