This class is designed specifically for children currently enrolled in kindergarten. Each week art teacher Marie Strauch will present a lesson, which includes emphasis on an element of art, such as line, shape, color, texture, or pattern, introduce a famous artist, art media and/ or new technique. Each child will be given directions to follow as well as the opportunity to explore art in a creative way within each activity. Art Adventures (Ages 5-7)
Explore different media and art forms including, watercolors, acrylic, and charcoal as well as lessons in still life, abstract painting, watercolor shading, and shadowing. Little Picasso (Ages 3-5)
This class is designed for children to explore the world of art. Basic concepts such as line, space, shape, color, texture, and composition will be introduced. Water-based paints, markers, pencils and inks are used to explore color mixing, texture, and painting surfaces. No class November 24.

Adult Figure Drawing
Elmhurst Art Museum is offering an 8-week Adult Figure Drawing Course Tuesday nights, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, September 21 - November 9, 2010 Join local art instructor John Nester in this comprehensive course about drawing the human figure. John has been teaching art for 35 years and recently retired from York High School in Elmhurst from teaching Drawing, Ceramics, and Advanced Placement Art. Here is the opportunity for artists and AP art students who work with sculpture, painting, and drawing to improve their skills with the human figure. Students will draw from nude models, with emphasis on gesture, proportion, volume, contour line and composition. Pencil, charcoal, pastels, stick and ink, and ink washes will be covered during the 5-week course. Class size will be kept small, with a maximum of eighteen students. Pencils, charcoal, pastels, and a large drawing pad are required. Students who are under 18 years of age and would like to participate in this adult class are welcome by having a parent sign the registration form below. A solid foundation of drawing skills is necessary before learning any other art form. In this studio setting, students will have the opportunity to work at their own level, developing drawing skills to reach their goals. We will work on proportion, value, line quality, color theory, blending, visual texture, shading and composition. Group as well as individual instruction will be given by artist Marie Strauch. Pottery Basics (Adult)
Explore the creative and relaxing process of making pottery. Starting with handbuilding basics and progressing to the potter’s wheel, new techniques are introduced throughout the session. Students will have the opportunity to practice and produce stoneware and raku pottery. TOURS Elmhurst Art Museum strives to create a welcoming atmosphere where art can be viewed, studied, and appreciated. In so doing the Museum offers a range of guided tour options with docents who are available to answer questions. Enjoy a visit to the Museum and tour of the current exhibitions or McCormick House with your group today! Tour Options:Self Guided Tours: Visitors are allowed to visit, view the exhibitions, and tour the Museum. A Museum ambassador will be at the Museum to answer any questions, but will not lead a tour allowing the visitors enjoy the exhibition at their own pace. The fee for self guild tours is general admission. Guided Tours: Visitors are guided on a tour and lecture through the exhibitions by a trained docent. Docents will tailor all tours to the age and interest of group. Please allow an hour for Guided Tours. The fee for an Adult Guided Tour is $10.00 per person. The fee for a Children's Guided Tour is $5.00 per person. Guided Tours with Activity: Visitors are given a guided tour as well as an activity based on the current exhibition developed by the Museum’s Education Coordinator. Please allow 90 minutes for a Guided Tour with Activity. The fee for an Adult Guided Tour and Activity is $15.00 per person. The fee for a Children Guided Tour and Activity is $10.00 per person. Student Tours: A varity of student tours are available at EAM. Please call (630) 834-0202 to schedule your group. Please make yourself aware of all Museum guidelines listed below. Chaperones are responsible for the students' conduct and compliance with Museum guidelines. - Self Guided Student Tour: Students will tour the Museum with their instructors and chaperones at their own pace. A Museum ambassador will be available to anwser any questions. There is no charge for Illinois school groups taking a Self Guided Student Tour that have received a confirmation from EAM. A $25.00 suggested donation is appreciated from self-guided student groups. Chaperones are required at specified ratios based on group size and age. There is no minimum for Self Guided Student Tours. The maximum for a Self Guided Student tour is 90 students.
- Guided Student Tour: Students are guided on a tour and lecture through the exhibitions by a docent trained to work interactively with students. Docents will tailor all tours to the age and interest of the group. The fee for Guided Student Tour is $5.00 per student. Chaperones are required at specified rations based on group size and age. The minimum for Guided Student Tour is 10 students. The maximum is 90 students.
- Guided Student Tour and Activity: Students are guided on a tour and lecture of through the exhibitions by a docent trained to work interactively with students and then participate in an art activity developed by EAM's Education Coordinator. The fee for a Guided Student Tour and Activity is $10.00 per student. Chaperones are required at specified ratios based on group size and age. The minimum for a Guided Student Tour and Activity is 10 students and the maximum is 30.
Reservations:Reservations may be made at least two weeks in advance by calling the Museum’s Education Coordinator at 630-834-0202, ext. 116. Please have ready the date and time that you would like to tour the Museum, number of people in your group, and the type of tour you wish to take. Please reschedule or cancel at least one week in advance by calling 630-834-0202. Museum Guidelines:We ask that you and your group be aware of the following rules while visiting the Museum. Failure to comply will result in the group being asked to leave the Museum: - Do enjoy the artwork.
- Do not touch the artwork. Natural acids and oils in your skin can cause damage and disintegration to the artwork on display. Remember the acids and oils in your skin easily damage sculpture also.
- Do ask questions.
- Discussion is encouraged, but please be considerate of others sharing the gallery.
- Do enjoy your visit.
- Food and drink are not permitted in the galleries.
- Ink pens are not permitted in the galleries. Ink is notoriously difficult to remove from artwork and gallery walls. Ink can damage artwork and cause costly repairs.
- Do use pencils.
- Please do not use the gallery walls as a writing surface. Clipboards are available at the front desk.
- No running! An arm’s length away from the artwork is a good rule.
- Photography is not permitted in the Museum. The camera flash can damage some delicate works of art on paper by prematurely fading the pigments.
- Do not lean against the walls or pedestals used to display the artwork.
- Do not climb on the outdoor sculpture.
- Chaperones are required in ratios of 1:5 for children under 8 and 1:8 for children 8 and above.
The Museum is a caretaker and steward of valuable art for generations to come. Thank you for your help to ensure that the work you see here today will be here for many years to come! Facilities:All facilities are handicapped accessible. Wheelchairs for visitors are available for use at the front desk. A coatroom is available free of charge for coats, umbrellas, backpacks, and school boxed lunch storage. Backpacks and lunches are not permitted in the galleries. The Museum is not responsible for lost or stolen items left in the coatroom area. Clipboards for school group worksheets are available from the front desk. Folding stools are also available for visitors to use in the galleries and during the guided tours. Explore the world of ceramics with your family in these two-day holiday themed workshops. Together learn hand-building techniques of slab, coiling and pinching in the first class and glazing and final firing in the second class. Projects may be picked up at the Wagner Community Center one week after the last class. This is an adult/child class.

A FUN, introductory course to the wonderful world of ceramics. Learn the basic techniques of working with clay. Children create pieces to be fired and glazed with different tools such as cookie cutters and agarlic press. Please wear old clothes and be prepared to get messy! No class October 11.

This program will consist of both a 30-minute gallery tour and a 45-minute hands-on art activity that coincides with the artwork on display at the EAM. Docent Led Museum Tours (1st & 3rd Sunday at 2pm)
Tour the current exhibitions and McCormick House with EAM Docents Ida Kotyuk or Meredith Morris.
