Jenny Gibbs has been Executive Director of Elmhurst December since 2014, during which time she has secured funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts and several major gifts. One of her first successful initiatives was to open the entirety of the Mies van der Rohe (McCormick) House to the public for the first time since the Museum opened in 1997 by relocating the Administrative Offices, formerly located in the Mies House, to under-utilized space in the Museum’s main building.
Gibbs joined the Museum with more than twenty-five years of leadership experience in the non-profit sectors of the arts, design and higher education, most recently serving as Dean of Graduate Programs at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MCAD). Prior to her work at MCAD, Gibbs served as Executive Director of the Bard College Lacoste School of the Arts in France and as New York University's Director of Outreach & Special Programs. Gibbs began her career as a Curatorial Research Assistant at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, followed by several years at Christie's as Program Manager for Estates, Appraisals and Valuations and as Head of the Paintings Department at Christie's East.
Gibbs holds an MA in Art History from New York University and a BA from Sarah Lawrence College. Building upon her previous experience, Gibbs oversees all aspects of EAM, including fund development, financial and strategic planning, staff management, marketing and community relations.
